The perfect balance

Does the city make you a selfish person?

Have you ever opened your eyes one morning and realized your priorities slipped out of your hands overnight? That happened to me this morning. The weather is warming up. The days are getting longer. The calls with my mom are shorter. I missed time with my aunt and uncle for an extended bar hop with friends. Time watching soccer has trumped time with relatives. I've started to choose every social opportunity over taking care of my body. I drink for more hours than I run. I forget to text friends back because I'm too busy. I missed my best friends baby shower because somebody was supposed to visit town then bailed at the last minute. I wake up on Monday morning to a messy room and nothing productive accomplished. I'm starting to feel guilty for things I can't control, like not going home for Mother's Day. The "wish you were here" and "hope you can make it" statements are making me grow resentful of this incredible city that I should feel lucky to be a part of. I want to do everything but need to allow myself to do nothing, and I need to be OK with that. Where is the line drawn? How do you find and achieve that perfect balance?

As much as I love living in New York I'm finding it harder to ground myself. I don't want to miss a single opportunity but my body is starting to suffer. I'm tired all the time and find myself losing focus and becoming overwhelmed easily. I'm thinking the occasional case of FOMO will be the healthier option - but will my happiness suffer?

How do you take a step back and distribute your time without disappointing others? Without feeling regret yourself?

coachella looks - part 3

Recovering from Coachella is a series of events - there's a bit of relief because your body has been pushed to every limit possible, but there's a lot of sadness because the weekend that you've been looking forward to all year is already over.

Luckily, my Coachella Monday look had me feeling like a desert bandit and I was able to power through the sadness (there was a lot to look forward to back in New York where reality was waiting). The tail end of Coachella is also pretty relieving for me because going all natural is really the only choice - so going sans makeup and hair product left me feeling extra beautiful. Plus Kendrick said he was tired of Photoshop (and frankly so am I).

I partnered with Banjara Collection - the perfect boho clothing line for my gypsy soul - and styled my favorite Coachella looks. Banjara Collection is available at Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor, and Belk. This top was my favorite part of Coachella Monday.

coachella looks - part 2

What's more epic Coachella than suede and fringe? This is the perfect festival vest - I'm beyond obsessed with it. I partnered with Banjara Collection - the perfect boho clothing line for my gypsy soul - and styled my favorite Coachella looks. Banjara Collection is available at Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor, and Belk.

I styled this vest with a simple crop top and jeans, and these Report Shoes lace up heels are the exact same color. Isn't it a match made in heaven?

coachella looks - part 1

Coachella is my very favorite time of year. The excitement for the festival is self explanatory - great music, good vibes, palm trees... but the best part for me is returning to California and spending time with my friends. I often question why I left so many amazing people, but they prove to be even more amazing by welcoming me with so much love even though my everyday life is across the country.

The next best part about Coachella? Dressing the part. I partnered with Banjara Collection - the perfect boho clothing line for my gypsy soul - and styled my favorite Coachella looks. Banjara Collection is available at Bloomingdale's, Lord & Taylor, and Belk. This jumper is EVERYTHING - and I can't wait to wear it all spring & summer.

You can also snag these adorable bun pins from Kitsh and sunnies from Kapten & Son. I saw these leaf bun pins and had to get 2 for some super fun space buns!

amongst the roses

I've had some fantastic conversations lately with my best friends, new friends, old friends whom I haven't been able to catch up with for quite some time, acquaintances, and strangers. They all revolve around a common subject: change.

As I near my 30th birthday, I think about how much I've changed over the past year, 3 years, and 5 years. I've absolutely gone through the most dramatic growing periods of my life, and what's exciting is that I'm fully aware that I'm going through a deeper change at this moment.

My goal is to always strive to be a good person, simple as that - but life tosses you carelessly into challenging situations where you end up living with somebody who doesn't understand you, or you work for somebody who doesn't respect you, or you fall for somebody who has every intention of hurting you. Life is an infinite test of your character, no matter your age, lifestyle, relationship status, financial situation, political opinion, emotional baggage, professional history, etc.

We're all just doing the best we can, and we're all constantly changing.
