wind chill

It's that time of year again, where we're all bombarded with bounties of food, black friday ads, and the official start of holiday shopping. More than all of that though, beyond the self centered and entitled people of our generation, we all take a step back and recognize what we're thankful for. Even with all of the insanity and negativity going around this country right now, we're all so lucky to be here living in this free world with so many opportunities. Chances are if you're choosing to read this (fashion blog) from a computer in your spare time, you probably have a lot to be thankful for.

Try to take a step back from all of your issues, the country's issues, and the world's issues and realize how lucky we all are. I'm so thankful for all the lessons I've learned about myself this past year and the friends and family that have stuck by my side and haven't given up on me. I'm excited to spend Thanksgiving Day with some extended family out here in California.

Bundle up, it's gonna get chilly!

falling for plaid

Finding fall weather and fall colors around Southern California is rather difficult, however, if you decide to drive through Barstow, California 4 times within 6 days, you'll notice a little patch of yellow trees between there and Victorville. Clearly I had to stop and snap some of these shots (because I know when I lived in Ohio, relating to fashion surrounded palm trees in November just made me angry).

This plaid dress is the perfect fall staple. I'm a dress girl, always will be, so I need something thicker and a little more seasonal for these coming months. The pretty little embroidered details give it just the right feminine touch.

Pairing socks with combat boots is also a new favorite seasonal styling trick, I think I started doing this after I saw my best friend wearing it so well. I love when I can pull ideas from people that don't necessarily call themselves "fashionistas", it's just true personal style that seems really organic.

What's your fall staple piece?

flowy floral dress

My looks have been corresponding directly with my attitude lately - just go with the flow. Sometimes you lack direction and just need to coast along for a little while, so that's what I'm doing. I found this Forever 21 dress online and HAD to have it for layering during the LA winter months.
I layered the long dress with the long cardigan to elongate everything on my body since I'm so short.

How do you feel about florals into the fall seasons?

fall feelings

Those fall feelings.... most people love fall, and I do too, but there's something about the chilly air and early evenings that leave a pit in my stomach. I can't shake it... but usually I'm distracted by fall-like plans or I'm busy concentrating on layering of new autumn finds and old summer pieces.

I'm loving my new neighborhood in LA, I recently moved and feel like I'm finding myself more and more these days. There's no charming shops or bakeries, no popular bars or sightseeing spots nearby, but it is reasonably close to every one of those things while still enjoying some peace (aside from the horrific parking situation).

I'm putting a bandaid over these empty fall feelings by wearing over the knee socks and pulling some scarves that I pulled out of old boxes. How are you dealing with your growing pains? Do you enjoy the chill that comes with the continuing seasons?
