olive all over

A foggy day + long road trip were the perfect combination for an outfit that was light but cozy. I love loose knit, lightweight sweaters out here on the west coast - they're not stuffy and they don't call for freezing temperatures. They make any and every situation comfortable.

I threw on this sweater/shorts combo from H&M for a long ride and it was totally worth it. Not only was the price friendly, but these pieces look put together and well planned while feeling like my Monday night pajamas. Would you wear this monochrome look?

all mixed up

I love fall in LA because it's cool enough to layer and wear sweaters, but warm enough to be able to experiment with those layers by wearing shorts, tee's, and so on. I do miss the beautiful colors and festivities that usually accompany the month of October - all these folks at pumpkin patches and apple orchards out here just don't feel genuine. Plus, people out here don't really drink apple cider or have big bonfires or have hayrides so that's a little weird.

Anyway, over the knee socks are once again my very favorite fall/winter accessory! I expanded my OTK sock color palette from just black and gray to a nice little oxblood hue too. A simple black & white ensemble is completed with yet another wool hat - this time olive green - and these super pretty Conversation Pieces earrings. Everyone needs a little glitz + glam, am I right?

it's sweater season

It's true! I never, ever wear heels - so this is a very rare outfit. I've embraced my vertically challenged height of 5'1", and I'm pretty proud of being the tiniest person in the crowd wherever I go. With that being said, there’s nothing more beautiful than a good pair of heels, and let’s be honest – they do wonders for your legs and booty that flats just aren't capable of. It was a kind-of-casual Friday and a bit chilly. Sweater weather is starting to settle in (I hope!), but my one year in LA has taught me that winter is a very mild and short-lived season. After all, last December I was encountering 90 degree heat while my family and friends back home were suffering one of the harshest winters in years. I think I’ll take California weather over that.

I also distressed this denim myself. I never wore these jeans and felt they needed an update. Luckily, the unfinished hem is a pretty booming trend so I didn't have to use my sewing machine at all – I just snipped and distressed! I just used scissors, but here’s another great DIY distressing tutorial I found.

the statement piece

There's nothing like the go-to black and white combo, my favorite black jeans that I've been breaking in for YEARS and a simple (and forgiving) white collared tank are a great uniform for just about anything. I headed from work to dinner to an evening over at a friend's place and didn't have to change a thing about this look! Versatile? I think so.

I love a good statement necklace and I don't think I wear them enough. I've made it a goal to invest in more unique statement jewelry for the fall, and I started with this Conversation Pieces necklace. The navy/black rhinestone combo has inspired me to pair the two colors in my wardrobe as well.

casual cool

A casual cool look to wrap up the end of the week - sometimes just throwing something on turns out being the best option. This look was perfect for a temperamental day - it went from warm to cool many, many times.

I started with the basics - a tee, denim shirt, wool hat, neutral sandals... then I added a pop of color in a fun silhouette. The result, not bad.. not bad at all!
