waging wars to shape the poet and the beat

On a particularly windy desert day, we took yet another trip from LA to Vegas. We promised each other we would stop at Peggy Sue's 50's Diner (I'm sure anyone that has made this trip knows what I mean by the trillions of signs) and finally we decided to commit to the detour. While we always order too much food, and we always enjoy it and have the best time. Sometimes I pause and sit in those moments and just take in how happy I am. This was definitely one of those times that I'll always hold onto.

While the wind was whipping like I've never seen (I guess this happens all the time in the desert), the heat didn't let up either. I have a problem with packing heavy, so this trip I decided to pack my most travel-friendly items and go light. The solution was a simple vintage tee, my favorite floral shorts (detailed with the most lovely pom pom trim), and some silver oxfords that I got for a stunning $8 at Target. Let's not forget about the oh so trendy straw hat (this is also vintage).

To me, this travel look is perfect for a trip to anywhere, whether it's the desert, the country, or the beach. What's your go-to travel outfit?

The title of this post is from the incredibly popular Kings of Leon song Use Somebody. Sometimes you feel so much emotion from a song based off of memory, and around 5 years ago this song was the best memory of my life. I can always go back to this song and feel good.

this is what you get when you mess with us

I love dressing for summer because the season is so thematic - you can go for nautical, patriotic, festival, tribal... all of these trends are based around a holiday or a specific summer-type of lifestyle that is incredibly American. While you think of stars and stripes for patriotic, or anchors and sailor hats for a nautical way of dressing, I think these trends can be portrayed in a different fashion (see what I did there?).

For instance, this look to me is incredibly nautical - although I'm not screaming "I'm on a boat" with navy and white stripes or gold buttons, a simple color scheme can go a long way. Simple brights, navy accents, and feminine touches can set sail in many directions.

I also have a few favorite brands that you guys should know about - a fashionable (and affordable) website called Conversation Pieces is who provided this lovely, versatile top. This spot is a fantastic place to shop for great basics without breaking the bank. If you use the promo code STYLESARAH at checkout, you can get free shipping on any purchase! Another shop that I'm obsessed with right now is Ora Delphine - the makers of beautiful, high quality leather goods. I've been taking this satchel everywhere with me - it holds my laptop for working on the go, clothes for an overnight stay, and all my basics in between.

The title of this post is from the Radiohead song Karma Police. There's no particular reason why I'm into it right now - but Radiohead is like sushi for me - when I want to have it, nothing else will do. This song is just one of my favorites from this album.

they were sitting on the strawberry swing

When I said I was into florals this season - I WAS NOT KIDDING. I think every single outfit I wear has some sort of floral involved - and that's totally fine with me. They're feminine, soft, and ever so cheerful! My roommate, who's style is more edgy and dark, even incorporates this print into her wardrobe with a darker floral. It works for all!

On this day, my roommate and I had a fantastic lunch at Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits, and Cheese. If you're in LA and you have not lunched at this spot, clear your calendar and do it this week. If you plan on visiting LA, add this to your itinerary. This is not a joke, you'll be thanking me later!

A good, solid lunch called for a flowy outfit to hide that I ate what 5 people could have eaten ;)

The title of this post is a lyric from my very favorite Coldplay song, Strawberry Swing. It's pretty much impossible to listen to this song and be in a bad mood. Give it a try!

i don't recall a single care

Since changing home bases from Ohio to California, my favorite season has changed too - Summertime was always my favorite but now I think I've switched teams to Spring. There's something magical about Los Angeles in April and May - everything is in bloom and it feels like you're on another planet. The trees are purple, the days are hot, and everything just makes you feel alive.

I had been looking forward to visiting the Flower Fields in Carlsbad for quite some time, and one day in April on the way down to San Diego my little flower child dreams came true. I was so incredibly happy with everything in my life (see last photo for reference) and cant help but to look back and feel that feeling again. Everything was so perfect.

It was a chilly day - too chilly for a dress or anything that would give my legs goosebumps, so I opted for pants and sandals instead. You'll also start noticing that I have a SERIOUS obsession with florals right now...

The title of this post is from the lyrics in the song Summer Skin by Death Cab for Cutie. Though my favorite song on the album Plans is I Will Follow You Into The Dark, this song is a little more fitting for the season (plus, I really try not to depress you guys as my musical taste could probably push someone off of a bridge).
