giving thanks

My first true Thanksgiving in the city was nothing short of incredible. The weather was beyond perfect, the trees were turned just right, and something I didn't expect to appreciate: the city was nearly a ghost town.

I got to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade (okay, from a block away), make Thanksgiving dinner, watch football, and truly relax during the holiday. I did miss my family (and my mom's delicious cooking) a whole bunch, but I'm that much more excited to go back to Ohio over the Christmas holiday!

I channeled my inner cowboy & indian with this look - lots of fringe and natural color! I know there are a ton of photos, but I couldn't narrow it down anymore! Hope everybody had a lovely Thanksgiving!

we'd waste our weeks beneath the sun

I just went on a mini holiday to California a couple of weeks ago. I have to admit, a year ago I would have preached my little heart out that Los Angeles was the worst city in the country and that I wouldn't step foot there. Since then, I've visited the city 4 or 5 times in the past year and my mind has done a complete 180. I love LA - yes, I said it - I absolutely adore LA.

Along with the typical LA stops, I spent some time in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach - I can't believe people live in this paradise and I wonder why I'm not living there right now. Truthfully, Los Angeles has rudely stolen a piece of my heart, and I know I'll have to move there one day (soon). Shh...

I had the most wonderful brunch at a place called Sugar Shack in Huntington Beach. The French Toast was unreal. The day was followed by too many $3 mimosas (you can't find that in NYC) and Sunday football.

Another thing that's grown on me? Yes, football. What has the world come to?

A simple look - pants and a tee - can really come to life with a monochromatic color block and some layered statement necklaces. Pink on pink with a pop of yellow? Yes, please!

If you saw my last brunch related post with the black & white high waisted jeggings, you'll see that pant style trending with me often. The high waisted jeggings from H&M are just perfect for me (and cost effective at just $12!).

cat suit

I think its pretty obvious if you follow me on Twitter that I have quite the obsession with cats. Even better, if you track my likes on Instagram you KNOW I have quite the obsession with cats.

No, I'm not the girl on the NFL commercials that thinks her only outlet to a social life is to pretend to like football - but I've always had a cat in my life, and I do believe my obsession is stemmed from deprivation. I haven't lived with a cat for about a year and the lack of companionship is really wearing me out.

Anyway, my new cat companion, my beloved cat suit, has made some appearances and is quite the conversation piece. I HAD to have it when I saw it. Not just to top, not just the shorts, but the whole suit. Other perks of this duo? It looks like a romper and is the color of the season: oxblood. I am the modern cat lady, after all.

My advice for wearing a look drowning in a print? Keep everything else super simple - and rock the look with confidence! People will probably give you a double-take.

birthday brunch nails + giveaway!

Want to score some free nail polish? Read through to the bottom of the post!

Whoa, I feel like the span of really lovely northeast fall weather came and went within a few beautiful days. The cold is here to stay in the city (so I better get these posts rolling because I have a few of them in the queue!).

My beautiful, beautiful friend Brianna celebrated her birthday a few weeks ago where we had a little too much fun on a Saturday night followed by a brunch with friends. The atmosphere, weather, and company was perfect on that Sunday afternoon.

These pants are my absolute favorite! You'll see a palette of colors in this style throughout the next few outfit posts - and for good reason! These high waisted skinny jeggings were only $12 at H&M (and are still in stock!).

sunday sunset

For fall, a sunny and mild day in NYC is super rare. Of course, these photos weren't from last Sunday (that was hitting freezing temps) but from a break between football games a couple of weeks before. I found this skirt (among other long skirts) at the thrift store the last time I was visiting Ohio. Adding a modern but subtle color to this look made the skirt look brand new, definitely not something that grandma donated to Goodwill 4 years ago.

autumn maxi skirt

What's better than a super comfortable outfit on a gloomy Monday at work? This amazing maxi skirt form Brandy Melville is one of my favorite pieces because of the color and the super soft fabric. I paired the skirt with a printed floral top that I scored at the thrift store last time I was in Ohio. A serious pop of color in the turquoise necklace takes this look a whole new direction. While turquoise isn't in the top, this color and red are great compliments of each other and makes the look appear more modern.
