mid summer chill

It was a chilly morning. Oh, while I'm sweating in my apartment at 7:30 on a Saturday morning do I wish that the chilly morning weather would return. I guess I'll indulge in photos from a month ago when tights with shorts were the only way you could wear cutoffs without getting goosebumps. While I'll wear plaid just about anywhere (you know, its the Ohio in me), I couldn't put my shorts away. I also can't put the combat boots away! 90's grunge it was with layered bottoms.

My mom was visiting and she thought I was weird for wearing this outfit.

red suede shoes

Something inspired me to go for an Americana look that day at work - probably because red shoes are pretty patriotic in their own way. I was so excited to wear these little guys - red faux suede cowboy booties that I scored for a great deal (I'm talking like 10 dollars).

To dress this look up for work, I opted for a navy skinny trouser as opposed to a dark denim. The white vest also formalizes this look - keeping it office appropriate.

lace, orange, and snakes

A colored pant that is actually a trouser (as opposed to denim) could be my favorite kind of pant for a very long time. This style of pant can go dressy and casual - and I love versatility!

I wore this outfit to a show at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village - I love that area and the venue. Though some music venues can appear intimidatingly grungy, I didn't feel overdressed at all. Pairing a bright hue pant with neutrals (even the snakeskin is neutral being it is off white and black) comes off forward, yet classic.

Yes, we shot in a Duane Reade.
Yes, it was actually super fun.

rooftop bikinis: a caitlin kelly preview

My roomie and bestie, Abbey, and I were so excited to attend the Caitlin Kelly fashion show a couple weeks back - it was on the rooftop of a (very) tall building in the Financial District overlooking the New York City skyline and beyond. Sweeping views of Brooklyn took our breaths away as we turned to see storm clouds rolling over the Jersey hills threatening the city's stunning sunset. As city newbies, we couldn't help but to gawk at the incredible views and take multiple photos. Being all the way downtown has a very serious and pretentious feel, but the most intriguing part of the show's location was the uninterrupted view of the new Freedom Tower and 9/11 memorial. For a moment, I forgot that I was attending a fashion show... but the DJ took me out of that daze rather quickly.

Abbey and I made our way to the right side of the runway, scooting by the DJ and photographers setting up their gear. Attendees slowly made their way over as well, many with cocktails in hand chatting with friends. Everybody was super excited to experience this swimwear collection's debut - and the collection was definitely not a let down.

Stunning models with bangin' bodies and fierce struts took over the runway until sprinkles of rain broke loose. Kelly, for a young FIT grad, did an exceptional job at focusing on the woman's body without being risque or gaudy. Not only were her designs innovative and creative, but they were also flattering and wearable. They were fashion show worthy and shopper friendly. There are very few fashion shows where I could say "Wait, I really want to buy this! Where's the lookbook?", but Caitlin Kelly's collection took the hammer to my reservations.

Caitlin Kelly's line will show at Miami Fashion Week, and my hopes are I'll be able to purchase some of her sexy swimwear and lovely coverups in the near future.

By the way, Miss Kelly herself? Such a doll. As the rain started to sprinkle, she adorably gave her thanks down the runway in her own design with umbrella in tow.

Oh, wait!!

what you wear to fly

I wore this to jump out of a plane.

I didn't know I was going skydiving, it was actually the best birthday surprise I'll probably ever receive in my life - I was told that it was an outdoor adventure and that's all. Besides the initial "I'm so excited" freak-out when the surprise was revealed, I was rather calm throughout the process... until I heard (and felt) the plane door open.

Still trying to look like you're fashionably conscious while planning on an escape to nature? Here's my take:

Yes, I wear children's clothes. I happen to get a (REALLY) good deal on them. coughemployeesamplesalecough

Oh, you wanted to see skydiving photos?

moving mountains

As an Ohio turned New Yorker, seeing mountains is a serious event. I can't imagine living in an area surrounded by mountains and not stepping out of my way everyday to appreciate how fascinating they are. Of course, while road tripping, I had to take advantage of the scenery.
